CJ Wambuzi receives Ben Kiwanuka Rule of Law Award

KAMPALA: Chief Justice Emeritus, Hon. Justice Samuel William Wako Wambuzi, on September 20, 2019 became the first recipient of the Benedicto Kiwanuka Rule of Law Award.

The award was part of the activities to commemorate the second Annual Ben Kiwanuka Day Memorial Lecture, which was held at the Judiciary headquarters in Kampala.

The Day was commemorated under the theme; "Ben Kiwanuka: The Quest for Justice and Rule of Law".

The Deputy Chief Justice and Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of the Benedicto Kiwanuka Memorial Day, Hon. Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny Dollo,called for the rule of law and independence of the Judiciary to prevail.

The Deputy Chief Justice explained that it had been agreed that every year, The Benedicto Kiwanuka Rule of Law Award would be given to deserving individuals.

This Vice President, Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi, handed over the award to CJ Emeritus Hon. Justice Wambuzi for his role in preserving the rule of law.

The Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Rtd Maj Gen Kahinda Otafiire, praised the late Chief Justice Kiwanuka for paying the ultimate price of his life for what he believed in.
